The Symingtons of Scottish, English and Portuguese descent have been Port producers for five generations and since 1882. However their family_x0092_s involvement in Port dates back fourteen generations and over 360 years through their great-grandmother Beatriz Leitão de Carvalhosa Atkinson, whose ancestors were among Port_x0092_s pioneers in 1652. Five members of the family: Paul, Johnny, Rupert, Dominic and Charles work together in their four historic Port houses: Graham_x0092_s, Cockburn_x0092_s, Dow_x0092_s and Warre_x0092_s and they are one of the foremost producers of premium quality Port. The Symingtons are the leading vineyard owners in the Douro Valley, a region that is classified as Unesco World Heritage, with 26 Quintas covering 2,255 ha of which 1,024 ha are under vine. The family_x0092_s vineyards are managed under a _x0091_minimum intervention_x0092_ policy that preserves the natural environment and 112 ha are organically farmed, being the largest area of certified organic vineyard in Portugal.
