About
Quinta da Alorna was born from the hands of D. Pedro de Almeida. After conquering the tough Praça Forte de Alorna in the vicinity of Goa, where he held the post of Viceroy, he received from the King of Portugal, D. João V, the title of 1st Marquess of Alorna. Since then the property, with about 2,800 hectares, has become known as "Quinta dos Alorna". Tejo River defines the Terroir of this wine region, transforming the planes in the ideal soils to grow the grape varieties. The proximity of the river allows a wide range of temperatures which is of fundamental importance to harvest high quality grapes. In our case, the Tejo River is certainly the dominant element of this region, making a decisive contribution both at the level of the many «Terroirs» and at the climatic level. Quinta da Alorna, with around 180 hectares of vineyards, with grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, Chardonnay, Verdelho and Arinto, made their wines according to the most recent vinification technology. The result is products with the quality, excellence and competitiveness requested by the market. _x0093_We are privileged, our vineyards thrive on soils that give us a unique natural acidity that is expressed in aromatic and sensory freshness. We respect what nature gives us, and we always try to achieve what is ordinary in all our wines - the elegance!_x0094_ Martta Reis Simões - Winemaker
